I wasn’t impressed at all. I have been to several other DMV’s that except digital verification of address, not this one. I have been driving for 40 years and yet i still need to take a test! This DMV is not focused on customer service. It needs to be more apt to serving customer. I should have to run all over town to get the needed paperwork, it should be done right then and there. You have to go to the DMV at least twice and more than likely more just to get a license. 😡😡
I have been to several DMV’s and the one in San Marcos, CA. is by far the worst. The things you need to do and bring are not up to standards. Right down pathetic.
Paul Vinson renewal 3-23-26, at 8:00 am. I would like to commend the security officer (Tim) and staff member (Xochi) for their professionalism in assisting me with my renewal process. There was another dmv employee I would like to include but I failed to get her name. She took my picture about 8:20 that morning. All three people were pleasant in nature and made my experience very satisfying.

The customer service was disappointing—unprofessional, unhelpful, and at times disrespectful. The overall service quality was poor, and staff showed little effort in assisting customers.
A suggestion for improvement would be to ensure that new hires demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a positive attitude. It often feels like anyone is being hired without proper screening, and it shows in the customer experience.

unacceptable service I received at the California Department of Motor Vehicles office in Santa Clara on March 25, 2026.
After waiting approximately 1.5 hours, I was called to Window 6, where I was instructed to submit an application for a driver’s license replacement using the DMV’s computer system. I followed these instructions exactly. I then waited an additional 30 minutes to be called back to the same window.
At that point, the staff member asked for a confirmation code associated with my application. At no time prior was I informed that I needed to retain or document this code. When I explained that I did not have it, the employee refused to assist in locating my application in the system and instead instructed me to repeat the entire process from the beginning.
I complied and waited again. Despite the additional wait, I was not assisted further and was ultimately redirected to another window, causing further delay and inconvenience. In total, I experienced excessive and unnecessary wait times due to a lack of guidance, poor communication, and refusal to provide reasonable assistance.
I must emphasize that this was not simply an issue of inefficiency, but of unacceptable customer service and disregard for the public. I also observed similar treatment toward another customer, an African American man who stated that this was his fourth visit without resolution. This raises serious concerns about whether all customers are being treated fairly and with respect.
As a taxpayer, it is unacceptable to receive this level of service from a public agency. The lack of accountability, clear communication, and basic professionalism reflects poorly on the DMV and undermines public trust.

At that point, the staff member asked for a confirmation code associated with my application. At no time prior was I informed that I needed to retain or document this code. When I explained that I did not have it, the employee refused to assist in locating my application in the system and instead instructed me to repeat the entire process from the beginning.
I complied and waited again. Despite the additional wait, I was not assisted further and was ultimately redirected to another window, causing further delay and inconvenience. In total, I experienced excessive and unnecessary wait times due to a lack of guidance, poor communication, and refusal to provide reasonable assistance.
I must emphasize that this was not simply an issue of inefficiency, but of unacceptable customer service and disregard for the public. I also observed similar treatment toward another customer, an African American man who stated that this was his fourth visit without resolution. This raises serious concerns about whether all customers are being treated fairly and with respect.
As a taxpayer, it is unacceptable to receive this level of service from a public agency. The lack of accountability, clear communication, and basic professionalism reflects poorly on the DMV and undermines public trust.
