Hello,

The federal REAL ID Act has made changes to the types of identification we need in order to board domestic flights (within the United States), enter secure federal facilities, federal courthouses, and other federal facilities. The new California REAL ID meets all of the necessary requirements in keeping with the new laws. The REAL ID looks similar to a regular California driver's license, except that it is marked with a gold bear and star.

Starting May 7, 2025, you will either need a REAL ID or a U.S. Passport to board domestic flights. If your trip is before that deadline, you should be good to go. However, if you would like to apply for a California REAL ID, you will need to make a trip to the DMV with one proof of identity document such as a passport or birth certificate as well as two different documents proving your California residency.

I hope this helps!
