Modesto CA DMV Field Office

My case was slightly unusual but the employees were very patient and helpful. There was a bit of a wait but that's to be expected at any DMV.

Finding this DMV is rather easy esp since I had been there several times before. There was no problem finding parking. However, there was no indication where to go, so I just wanted in the long line which was at the back of the building at the time. So the end of the line was about half way around the building. The long wait was horrible. I was standing outside of the building for almost 2 hours. An employee had come by to take our temp, ask COVID related questions, then asked us what we were going to do at the DMV. Then they gave us a sticker and handed us a slip of paper to use at check-on. After almost 2 hours in line another employee took our cell phone number (what if we didn't have one), then told us to wait in the car. After the second text we were to proceed to a different door and wait there. I waited about 10-15 min in the car, then another 20-30 min outside, then I was allowed to go in and sit in an empty chair for another 20-30 minutes or so before my number was called. Most of the employees seemed efficient in their work, but one decided to talk to another just after I had my picture taken. I was just left standing there wondering if I was done or not. I don't know why they had to have a chat, but I was almost ready to call her out. There are no tips for going to the DMV. I could not make an appt. Bring a book. Take a sweater or umbrella or perhaps a chair/seat to sit in. Bring a snack and some water. Be patient. Good Luck!
