Always very busy there, especially during a pandemic, but at least everyone was wearing masks. Make sure any time you go to the DMV in New York, you give yourself at least an hour and be prepared to wait around.

If I were rating on my first visit last week, I could give 4 or 5 stars. I arrived AFTER 4PM (about 4:20pm) and went inside. I was asked if I had an appointment and I didn't. I was given paperwork to fill out. Once completed, I was given a number. Within 1 minute my number was called. I went to the counter, got my photo taken and signed a piece of paper. Then I sat back down and within another minute was called to another counter to finish my license renewal/upgrade. Unfortunately, I didn't have all the necessary documents with me (my fault) so I needed to make another visit.

Today, I arrived there at 4:02pm. There were several people standing at the doorway and I heard they were not letting anyone in without an appointment. Two security guys said no one without an appointment can enter between 4-5pm! I looked inside and there were probably only about 20 people spread out in seats and at the counters. When I checked online, it said "not very busy" so I felt this was an opportune time to go. After all, when I arrived there last week around 4:20pm without an appointment, I was in an out in about 10 minutes. There had been no one at the door telling people they couldn't enter without an appointment. On the website it doesn't say anything about no entry without an appointment between 4-5pm Very frustrating that they don't have this posted online or at the door (today is 12/12/23)! What a waste of time! Now I need to make a 3rd trip for something very simple (license renewal and upgrade to Real ID).

What a joke! All the inside seats were open, 4 people at counters, and 2 security guards not allowing anyone in without a reservation! There were only 8 people waiting to be taken care of in the hallway!! What is the state and taxpayers paying for. It sure isn't service!! I guess if I were illegal alien I would be taken care of!
