If you are familiar with eastern Connecticut, then finding the DMV in Norwich shouldn't be too tough (especially with GPS to help!) They have really straightened out a lot of the prior complaints- long lines, you can call ahead and give a time to be there. Long wait- they have set up a separate extension for the phones with an employee who's main job is to, 1. ensure you know the exact process of what you are trying to get done (forms, times, etc.) 2. tell you all about the new things they have allowed people to do online. For most of the reasons you have to go to the DMV, and your only action is to pay a fine, you can get that done online.....including renewing your license! You only need to go in if any documentation has changed or you want a new picture! COVID kind of put a fire under that idea that had been lingering for a while. They have really spruced up their website, and hopefully they are spreading the word because unfortunately, this DMV has never really had a good reputation, people would rather drive 25 minutes up North!

I had to deal with this branch when I lived in CT. It was as miserable as they could possibly make it. Now trying to re-locate my elderly mom to Florida, I have gathered all the necessary documentation to obtain a Real ID so she can fly back with me. It's been impossible to make an appointment online (I'll be in town 2 days!!) and the 800 phone number will not put my call through to make an appointment as my number is outside their calling area ( recording). Now I have no choice but to take all the paperwork to the airport with us, go through a painful and rigorous check-in process and hope they will allow her on the plane. Otherwise I will be stuck in Connecticut with no way to get my mom to Florida, as she cannot do a long train or bus ride 2500 miles.
