This is a very frustrating experience, to attempt to renew a driver’s license.
Clearly the DMV has not kept up with the growth in North Carolina and this will only get worse
If I could rate this location a zero, I would.

Hello,
To get a North Carolina state ID, you will need to go to the DMV and bring one document verifying age and identity, a social security card, and proof of residency. The fee for a NC ID is $14, however, it is free of charge for North Carolina residents who are legally blind, over 70 years old, homeless, or had a driver's license that was cancelled due to disability or disease.
