no where does it say you have to bring your birth certificate for a DL renewal. Showed up for appt only to be turned away to go home to get BC.

Where to begin? Getting my license renewed took FOUR visits, after receiving 'renew by mail' documents. I filled out, included a money order and returned all the requested info, and never heard anything back. I go to the web portal, create a profile to renew online, only for the website to scream 'you are not eligible to renew online or by mail. This is AFTER I was sent 'renew by mail' packet.
I go in person, was officiously told YOU NEED A BIRTH CERTIFICATE, and YOU NEED AN APPOINTMENT.
So after finding a birth certificate, making another appointment, and showing up, I attempted to renew my license. I was asked to read off a non-standard 'eye chart' taped to the wall and was told that they could not renew my license, because I now apparently needed some sort of document endorsed by an eye MD.
So once again , I get my retinologist to fill out the form, and make yet another appointment. Finally, on this attempt, the DMV gods granted my request for a renewed license. IF I could rate negative stars I would.

Do you take walk ins for just a photo ID?
Hello,
While there is always a chance that walk-ins can be accepted depending on availability, it is strongly recommended that you make an appointment to avoid long wait times. To make an appointment, please visit https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/driver-license-services-appointments .
