Utah License or ID Renewal

It’s important to keep a valid Utah driver’s license or ID for many different reasons. You can renew up to 6 months before your card expires.

There are a couple different ways to renew. You can renew:

  • Online.

OR

  • In person.

Utah licenses are valid for 8 years. Non-driver IDs are valid for 5 years.

Renew UT License or ID Online

The easiest way to renew a Utah license or ID is through the Department of Public Safety (DPS) online portal.

If you are eligible to renew online, you will receive a letter containing a PIN number approximately 90 days before expiration. Call (801) 965-4437 or toll free at (888) 353-4224 if you believe you’ve misplaced your renewal notice containing this PIN.

To renew online, visit the online portal and provide your:

  • Driver’s license or ID number.
  • Date issued.
  • PIN.
  • Credit card information for payment.

Your new license or ID will be mailed to your address.

  • Address.

When you visit your local DMV office, be ready to:

  • Provide 2 documents to prove your UT residence (if you have moved since your last renewal).
  • Proof of name change (if applicable).
