Title and Register a Vehicle in Utah

If you own a vehicle and reside in Utah, your vehicle must be titled and registered through the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This will require either:

  • Mailing some documents*.

OR

  • Visiting the DMV.

You can start your transaction online to obtain a temporary registration. This will require either the bill of sale or certificate of title.

*If you have just moved to Utah and need to title and register your vehicle, you must visit a DMV office in person.

Title and Register a Vehicle: New UT Residents

When you move to Utah from another state, you’ll have 60 days to transfer your title and register your vehicle.

To title and register your vehicle, visit your local DMV office and:

  • Get your vehicle inspected and have an employee complete a Certificate of Inspection (TC-661). You can also have your inspection completed beforehand by a:
    • Law enforcement officer.
    • Licensed dealer.
    • Safety inspector.
  • Provide your:
    • Out-of-state title.
    • Most recent out-of-state registration document.
    • Payment for the applicable title and registration fee.

If the vehicle is leased, you must also provide the:

  • Lessor’s power of attorney.
  • Billing statement.
  • Utah sales tax number.
