Renew Maine License or ID
Maine residents can renew their state driver’s licenses or IDs:
- Online.
OR
- In person.
Maine Online License or ID Renewal
You can renew your Maine license or ID online if you hold a:
- Non-commercial license.
- Motorcycle or motor driven cycle restricted license.
- Non-driver ID card.
NOTE: You may NOT renew online if you:
- Want to obtain or renew a REAL ID.
- Changed your name since the last time you renewed.
- Developed a medical condition or have a medical condition that has worsened since your last renewal.
- Need to remove your restriction for corrective lenses.
To renew your license or ID, visit the online portal and provide your:
- Social security number (SSN).
- Birthdate.
- License or ID number.
- Credit card information for payment.
If you need to, you may update your address, height, weight, or hair color when you renew.
Print your confirmation that the transaction has processed.
Renew ME Driver’s License or ID in Person
If you are unable to renew online or prefer to renew in person, you can process your ID or license renewal at a:

When you renew in person you may be asked to:
- Take an eye exam.
- Provide*:
- Proof of Maine address.
- Proof of lawful U.S. presence.
- Social security number (SSN) or document proving you are ineligible for social security.
- Payment for the renewal fee.
*NOTE: Obtaining or renewing a REAL ID requires presenting additional documents.
Maine License or ID Renewal Fees
NOTE: REAL ID-compliant IDs cost more than standard licenses and IDs.
- Class C license (under 65 years old): $30 (valid 6 years).
- Class C license (65 years old or older): $20 (valid 4 years).
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL) (under 65 years old): $34 (valid 5 years).
- CDL (65 years old or older): $27 (valid 4 years).
- Non-driver ID: $5 (valid 6 years).
