Illinois REAL ID
REAL ID in Illinois
Illinois residents are NOT required to obtain a REAL ID. However, in the near future, you’ll need a REAL ID or other federally accepted ID (such as a passport) to:
- Board a domestic flight.
 - Enter a nuclear power plant.
 - Enter certain federal facilities.

REAL IDs have a gold star in the upper-right corner.
Obtaining a REAL ID for the first time requires visiting a Secretary of State (SOS) office. Consider making an appointment beforehand.
