REAL ID in Delaware
Delaware REAL ID
Soon, a REAL ID or other federally accepted ID will be required to:
- Board a plane (even for domestic travel).
- Enter nuclear power plants.
- Enter federal facilities.
REAL ID-compliant licenses and non-operator IDs have a gold star printed on the upper right corner.
Non-compliant IDs and driver’s licenses are still available in Delaware.
REAL ID Requirements in DE
Obtaining a REAL ID in Delaware requires a trip to your local Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office. There you must provide*:
- Proof of identity and legal presence. Documents may include:
- S. birth certificate.
- S. passport.
- Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship.
- Proof of social security. This may include a:
- Social security card.
- W-2 or 1099 form.
- Printed pay stub containing your full social security number (SSN).
- Proof of DE residency (2 documents are required). Documents may include:
- Credit card statements.
- Utility bill statements.
- Rental agreements.
- Proof of employment.
- Proof of name change (if applicable). If your name on any of the documents does NOT match others, you must provide documentation such as a(n):
- Divorce decree.
- Marriage certificate.
- Court-issued name-change document.
- Payment for the applicable fee.

Delaware REAL ID Fees
There is no additional fee associated with a REAL ID vs. a standard ID. If you choose to upgrade a license or ID without renewing, you’ll be charged for a duplicate.
- License (new or renewal): $40.
- Duplicate license: $20.
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL): $48.
- CDL with HAZMAT (valid only 5 years): $30.
- A or B non-CDL license: $40.
- Non-driver ID: $20.
- Duplicate ID: $5.
- Late renewal fee: $10.
