Yarmouth RMV Office Under Temporary Relocation

By order of Colleen Ogilvie, Massachusetts Registrar of Motor Vehicles, the South Yarmouth Service Center on Route 28 entered a renovation period on December 5, 2022. This RMV office will be closed through the holidays and is expected to reopen next year on a date to be announced. For the time being, drivers and vehicle owners who need RMV services should visit the temporary location on 1068 Route 28, which is just down the road from the established South Yarmouth location.

The temporary RMV office will offer all the in-person services normally provided by the South Yarmouth location at 1084 Route 28. The days and hours of operation are also the same: Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It should be noted that the temporary office will still handle road tests for both passenger and commercial driver's licenses, but only with previous appointments between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday only.

By virtue of serving residents of both Barnstable County and Cape Cod, the South Yarmouth Service Center provides numerous services, of which more than 40 can be completed utilizing online transactions. Registrar Ogilvie recommends using the internet RMV Service Center during the temporary closure of South Yarmouth for renovation. Everything from renewing a driver's license to paying fines and fees can be accomplished with a myRMV account, which is a smart and convenient way to avoid waiting in line.

The remodeling of South Yarmouth is part of an initiative that the RMV has been working on since 2015. Some goals include renovating the waiting areas so they can accept higher capacity, adding more parking spots, improving accessible spaces, and replacing some of the older construction materials with sustainable options.
