WYDOT Rolls Out Virtual Lobby for Driver Services

Online Services

A recent technological innovation by the Wyoming Department of Transportation's (WYDOT) Driver Services program aims to make it easier for residents to manage their time effectively when using the service. The virtual lobby system, which provides a way for clients to reserve a spot in line online, was launched on June 12, 2023.

The initial rollout of the virtual lobby service is only available at select locations in Cheyenne and Casper, according to a statement by WYDOT. As part of the rollout, certain locations will undergo short periods of closure for staff training.

How the System Works

The new online system allows clients to save their spot in line virtually at selected locations. The website will then provide an estimated wait time, helping users plan their day accordingly.

"It does not reserve an appointment, but is a way to get in line without having to make an extra trip to Driver Services," said Renee Kocina, Driver Services deputy program manager. "The customer will receive a text message or email when it is time to go to the office, which helps reduce time away from work, school, or other daily tasks."

The online reservation system only permits clients to reserve a spot on the day they intend to conduct their business, with no option for scheduling further in advance.

Upcoming Training Closures

Other locations across the state will be added to the virtual lobby system following staff training sessions, some of which will necessitate short closures. Clients are advised to check WYDOT's website for updates on closures and newly added locations. Here are the scheduled training closures:

  • Gillette: June 14, 8-9 a.m.
  • Sheridan: June 14 (no closure required)
  • Cody: July 12, 8-9 a.m.
  • Riverton: July 14, 8-9 a.m.
  • Rock Springs: August 8, 8-9 a.m.

During these training sessions, residents will not be able to use the virtual lobby system in these locations.

Additionally, the following Driver Services offices will experience short closures for general staff training:

  • Torrington: June 13, 8-9 a.m.
  • Newcastle: June 13, 4-5 p.m.
  • Casper: July 11, 8-9 a.m.
  • Worland: July 13, 8-9 a.m.
  • Jackson: August 9, 8-9 a.m.
  • Thayne: August 10, 8-9 a.m.

Kocina stressed that not every Driver Services location will be included in the system. Selection was based on several factors, such as the daily volume of transactions.

This move by WYDOT signifies the organization's ongoing commitment to providing efficient and streamlined services for its clients. The new virtual lobby system can be accessed here.
