Wisconsin DMV Unveils Upgraded Cards with State-of-the-Art Security Measures Designed to Deter Fraud
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced the release of new driver licenses and identification (ID) cards featuring state-of-the-art security features. Set to debut on June 5; these revamped cards boast an array of unique design elements intended to fortify them against fraudulent activity.
Cutting-Edge Security and Aesthetic Appeal
“Wisconsin DMV continues to stay on the leading edge of technology by incorporating the next generation of updated security features into our driver licenses and ID cards,” said WisDOT Secretary Craig Thompson. “Our residents can be proud of the modernized new cards and also the efforts DMV takes to secure their credentials.”
Distinctive Features of the New Cards
The new cards flaunt several impressive features:
Artistic, Unique Designs: The cards feature handcrafted artwork of prominent Wisconsin landmarks, such as the iconic Wisconsin State Capitol and state flag, creating a secure, personalized card that is hard to replicate.
Transparent Windows: A novel security feature, the clear ribbon, is visible on the card's right and back bottom edges. It is integrated with cardholder data, making Wisconsin the first state to implement this advanced security measure.
Flipping Effect: This distinct feature allows the secondary photo to be visible when angling the card one way and the birth month and year when viewed from another angle. This unique feature increases security by making duplication and counterfeiting significantly more difficult.
Organ Donor Dot: The familiar orange dot indicating organ donor status is now embedded in a larger sugar maple leaf, which can be felt to the touch.
The cards maintain a distinct vertical format for individuals under age 21, with a blue/red color theme for quick visual recognition. Cards for those over age 21 follow a horizontal layout with a blue/gold color scheme.
Upgraded Security Available for Regular and REAL ID Cards
The enhanced security features will be available on both regular and REAL ID cards, with no change in the current fee structure.
“The first thing you notice is Wisconsin’s cards are even more attractive and the images celebrate the state. But built within the beautiful images and manufacturing process are layers of security features designed to protect card users and businesses who rely on their validity,” said DMV Administrator Kristina Boardman.
