Springfield RMV Service Center Set to Offer Road Tests Ahead of Work and Family Mobility Act
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has announced that the Service Center in Springfield will begin offering road tests from Monday, June 26, in preparation for the forthcoming Work and Family Mobility Act.
Road Tests to Increase Access for Western Massachusetts Residents
Previously slated for the Chicopee Service Center, road tests have been shifted to the Springfield location as part of the RMV's strategic efforts to cope with the anticipated increase in demand following the Act's implementation on July 1. Increased staffing, along with translation assistance via hotline, informational materials, and interpreter services, is also on the RMV's agenda.
“The transitioning of this service center to accommodate additional road tests will help provide customers in Western Massachusetts with increased access, dedicated support services, and additional opportunities to help secure driving credentials,” said Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Ogilvie.
Scheduling Road Tests and Meeting Requirements
Those requiring road tests can schedule their appointments online at mass.gov/myRMV for tests to be conducted on or after June 26 at the Springfield Service Center.
Applicants must come prepared with a physical copy of their learner's permit, a completed copy of the Road Test Application, and accompanied by a qualified sponsor. The vehicle used for testing must meet all functional and safety requirements.
Among other prerequisites, the vehicle used for the road test must be in good working condition, have valid registration and a current inspection sticker, and contain suitable seating arrangements for the examiner and the sponsor.
The introduction of road tests at the Springfield Service Center is set to improve access for Western Massachusetts residents to secure driving credentials, enhancing their mobility and easing the anticipated customer service demand when the Work and Family Mobility Act comes into effect.
