Default News Image

As of May 3rd, 2023, residents of Minnesota will need a Real ID to board a domestic flight. A Real ID is available at the division of Driver and Vehicle Services. The Real ID card will also be required of travelers across the country. Approximately 30% of Minnesotans have already obtained their new card.

Save some time and avoid unnecessary delays when you head to the DVS office. It's important to know that only original documents are acceptable in order to apply for the card. They will not accept any laminated documents, scanned images, photocopies, or faxed documents. The DVS cannot accept digital images such as those that have been saved and stored on a mobile device.

It must be the same name on the documents as the name noted on the application. Therefore, anyone who has changed their name will be asked to show proof of the name change(s) starting from birth up until the present date. Acceptable documents they will consider include a certified copy of a marriage certificate or an adoption decree. Other valid forms of proof of a name change include a divorce decree or a dissolution of marriage.

Applicants can access their Real ID card in as little as sev days. To learn more or to start the pre-application process online, please visit drive.mn.gov.
