GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Road to Restoration driver’s license clinic program, a partnership between the Michigan Department of State (MDOS) and state and community partners, is in its second year and continues to help drivers who have lost their license get back behind the wheel.

The clinics are part of a statewide effort to help drivers who have lost their license due to a suspension or revocation get back behind the wheel. At each clinic, residents meet one-on-one with expert staff to learn what they need to do to get back behind the wheel and complete as many steps as possible on-site.

“We are committed to helping Michiganders get back on the road safely and legally,” said Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. “These clinics provide a valuable service to residents who have lost their license and are struggling to navigate the restoration process.”

The clinics are open to all Michigan residents who have lost their licenses due to a suspension or revocation. Residents do not need a court date or a hearing to attend a clinic.

The Road to Restoration program has served more than 4,500 Michiganders at 20 clinics in 11 cities. The clinics are made possible by numerous statewide partner organizations, including the Michigan Department of Attorney General, DTE Energy, Miller Canfield, the Detroit Justice Center, the Michigan Association of United Ways, and Michigan 2-1-1.

The next Road to Restoration clinic will be on April 12 in Lansing. Additional clinics are scheduled this year in Kalamazoo, Detroit, Downriver, Mt. Pleasant, Alpena, Traverse City, and the Upper Peninsula.

Community leaders and residents alike have praised the program.

“The Road to Restoration program has been a great asset to our community,” said Rev. Jerry Bishop, LifeQuest Urban Outreach Director. “It has helped many people get back on the road and has made a real difference in their lives.”

“I was able to get my license back, and I’m so grateful for the help I received from the Road to Restoration program,” said Amanda, a Grand Rapids resident who attended a clinic last year. “I would recommend this program to anyone needing help getting their license back.”

The Road to Restoration program is an example of the MDOS’ commitment to providing quality customer service and making government work for the people of Michigan.
