Phoenix Freeway Closures and Detours: ADOT’s Weekend Travel Advisory for Sept. 5–8, 2025

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has issued a weekend freeway travel advisory for Sept. 5–8 that Phoenix-area drivers should heed. The agency will close several freeway ramps and lanes across the metropolitan area to accommodate maintenance, pavement improvements and other construction activities. While these projects ultimately provide smoother travel and safer roadways, motorists will need to adjust their plans to avoid delays.
According to ADOT, northbound I‑17 traffic will not be able to exit at 7th Avenue between Friday night and early Monday morning because crews will be working on a bridge-improvement project. Drivers headed to downtown Phoenix are encouraged to exit at Camelback Road or Bethany Home Road and use surface streets to reach 7th Avenue. In addition to the ramp closure, Interstate 10 will see a series of lane restrictions as work continues on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project and other pavement repair efforts. Eastbound I‑10 will be narrowed to two lanes near the Salt River Bridge while crews apply a protective polymer overlay; that restriction will last from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday. Westbound I‑10 will also be reduced to two lanes near 32nd Street for similar maintenance during the same period.
Other projects will affect U.S. 60 and Loop 101. The westbound U.S. 60 on‑ramp at Priest Drive and the westbound off‑ramp at Rural Road will close from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday as workers add an additional westbound lane. Loop 101 (Price Freeway) will be closed in both directions between Loop 202 and U.S. 60 from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements; traffic will be detoured to Loop 202. ADOT advises drivers to plan for extra travel time, use alternate routes and slow down in work zones.
These closures are part of a statewide effort to repair aging infrastructure and expand freeway capacity. While weekend disruptions can be frustrating, ADOT reminds drivers that reducing their speed and following posted detours keeps workers and fellow motorists safe. The department also notes that schedules are subject to change due to weather or equipment problems. Up‑to‑date information on closures and suggested detours can be found on the ADOT Travel Advisory page or by following @ArizonaDOT on social media. Planning ahead and staying informed are the best ways to minimize inconvenience during this busy weekend of freeway maintenance.
