The Bismarck Tribune reports: Voter ID cards issued by the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) are being distributed in cooperation with the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, the Standing Rock Sioux, the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara (MHA) Nation, and the Spirit Lake Nation.

North Dakota citizens who do not already possess a valid picture ID (like a driver's license or a tribal ID, for example) are eligible to submit an application for one of these photo ID cards. At these offices, residents over the age of 18 are eligible to receive a complimentary Non-Driver Photo ID Card.

"Our goal is to guarantee that everyone gets the opportunity to vote for the forthcoming elections," said Brad Schaffer, head of the NDDOT's driver licensing division.

NDDOT agents will collect pictures and paperwork at tribal sites. Within five days of submitting the required documents, residents will receive their Photo ID card in the mail.
