No appointment needed at the DMV for new Nevada residents

Newcomers to Nevada are receiving the welcoming mat of sorts from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). New residents in Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City and Henderson can head straight to the DMV without an appointment to transfer their out-of-state driver licenses. They can also register to vote as new Nevada residents while there.

The DMV offices will be opened Monday through Friday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., giving the newest residents plenty of time to register. These hours will remain in effect until November 8th, also Election Day. New transferees should be prepared upon arrival to the DMV to transfer their current license and registration. Additionally, those patrons needing VIN inspections can have those done in advance. No appointment is necessary.

This slimmed-down registration process helps to ensure that new residents who wish to vote--and meet voting requirements--can do so if they wish. They can take advantage of the Silver State's same-day, in-person registration opportunity on Election day and during the early voting period. In fact, all Nevadans with valid state-issued IDs can register to vote at the DMV. The DMVs automated voter registrations are submitted daily until November 8th.

Here are some important websites for those needing more information regarding voting registration. New Nevadans can check out dmv.nv.gov for further information on the requirements needed to transfer their license and registration. Current Nevadans who need to change their information can also go to: dmv.nv.gov. They can also bring proof or their address to the voting polls.
