New York State DMV to Close Queens College Satellite Office on June 27
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the closure of its temporary satellite office located at Queens College, effective from June 27. The decision comes after careful consideration and takes into account the processing capabilities of other DMV offices, said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder.
In an official press release, Schroeder said, "It was never intended to be a permanent location and we kept it open for as long as we felt it was needed to assist New Yorkers through the implementation of the Green Light Law and our reopening after COVID."
Customers who had appointments scheduled at the Queens College location after June 27 can visit any other DMV office in the five boroughs, including any of the three other offices located in Queens. Their reservation will be honored at these locations. The Queens College DMV office first opened in 2020 following the passage of the Driver’s License Access and Privacy Act, also known as the Green Light Law.
The DMV ensures customers that the three permanent offices in Queens—College Point, Jamaica, and Springfield Gardens—will continue to operate and are conveniently located less than 10 miles from the Queens College location. Customers can expect quick service at these locations, with an average visit time of less than 30 minutes.
Schroeder added, "I am proud to say we are processing customer transactions at our other offices in record time with plenty of capacity for customers."
To further enhance convenience, the DMV has significantly increased the number of transactions that can be completed online. Over 70 transactions and services are available at DMV.NY.GOV, allowing customers to avoid physical office visits altogether. These services include renewing a driver's license or vehicle registration, ordering duplicate documents, requesting driving records, paying fees and fines, and more.
All staff impacted by the closure will be retained and relocated to an office of their choosing, ensuring that the transition will not affect the quality of service provided.
Customers are encouraged to visit the DMV's official website to prepare for their visits and make the experience as seamless as possible.
