Westchester County drivers who have road tests scheduled at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles’ White Plains Road Test Site should take note of new temporary arrangements. In an update posted by the DMV, officials explained that ongoing road work near the White Plains testing facility has made it necessary to relocate tests on two consecutive days in mid‑August. The changes affect customers with appointments on Thursday, August 14, and Friday, August 15. According to the announcement, road work crews will be working on or near the facility those days, prompting the agency to shift operations to ensure safety and reduce congestion.

Drivers with appointments on August 14 will take their road tests at the Yonkers Road Test Site. Customers who are scheduled for August 15 will be redirected to the New Rochelle Road Test Site. Importantly, the DMV notes that appointment times will remain the same even though the location has changed. Anyone affected will receive confirmation from the DMV, and there is no need to reschedule. All other road test locations in Westchester County remain open.

The DMV is encouraging customers to arrive early at the substitute locations to allow time to adjust to unfamiliar routes. Applicants should bring all required documentation, including a valid learner permit, pre‑licensing course completion certificate, and any corrective lenses required by their permit. The DMV reminds customers that examiners will not be able to conduct a road test if the vehicle is unsafe or lacks required equipment such as a hand brake.

Relocations like this are rare, but they underscore the importance of checking the DMV’s website for the latest information before heading to an appointment. Road tests are strictly scheduled and cannot be extended for late arrivals, so planning ahead is essential. Drivers who cannot attend their road test due to the change can reschedule through the DMV’s online scheduling system.

The agency also encourages customers to use DMV online services where possible. Many common tasks – including renewing a license or non‑driver identification, ordering a duplicate title or registration, or signing up for organ donation – can be completed on the DMV’s website without visiting an office. By using online services, customers help reduce congestion at road test sites and DMV offices.
