The MVD Plans to Stick with Its Appointment System

Given that the appointment system has reduced wait times, the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Field Division has announced that it will continue to use it. Departmental online services established at the outset of the COVID-19 epidemic will also be maintained.

Since implementing its appointment-only strategy in March 2021, MVD has substantially cut wait times, with 94% of clients seeing waits of 30 minutes or less, as reported in a news release.

A new license or identification card applicant might save time on the day of their appointment by completing the application in advance. MVD has increased its self-service options, such as appointments, so clients can get essential services without physically visiting the office.

Cases of self-service transactions include:

• At mvdonline.com, you can perform a variety of things, such as renew your driver's license and vehicle registration, change your address or insurance information, renew your parking placard, and pay your parking tickets.

• You can use your credit or debit card to pay for vehicle registration renewals, traffic tickets, and more by calling the toll-free number (888) 683-4636.

• Both the Albertsons at San Mateo and Montgomery and the Albertsons at Juan Tabo and Candelaria in Albuquerque provide self-service kiosks where drivers can renew their vehicle registration and make payments for any outstanding tickets or fines.
