Massachusetts RMV Opens 2023 Low Number Plate Lottery Applications
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has announced the availability of applications for the 2023 Low Number Plate Lottery. The RMV will accept online applications at the myRMV Online Service Center from 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, until 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023.
Lottery Details
This year, the RMV is offering 191 plates in the lottery, including some special low number plates such as 13F, 17V, 28E, Z64, 301, 1999, 4004, 4400, and 8511. It's a free-to-enter lottery, but winners will be required to pay a special plate fee and a standard registration fee.
Those interested can follow @MassRMV on Twitter for updates on the lottery plate drawing to be announced later this summer, including the date, time, and location of the event. Lottery plate applicants will also receive an email notification from the RMV with event details. Lottery results will be published on the RMV website following the drawing.
Rules and Eligibility
The RMV has set the following rules and eligibility requirements for the lottery:
- Only one entry per applicant will be accepted.
- Applicants must be Massachusetts residents with a currently active, registered, and insured passenger vehicle.
- Companies or corporations may not apply.
- MassDOT employees and their immediate family members are not eligible.
- Requests for specific plate numbers will not be honored.
- Applicants' registration and license cannot be in a non-renewal, suspended, or revoked status. Also, they must not have any outstanding excise taxes, parking tickets, child support, warrants, or unpaid E-Z Pass/Pay by Plate violations.
Key Dates
By law, lottery winners must be announced by Friday, September 15, 2023. Winners will then have until Friday, December 29, 2023, to swap their plates. Any unclaimed plates after this date will be forfeited and awarded to alternate winners.
