Massachusetts RMV Expands Class D Road Test Services to Braintree and Mattapan

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has introduced two new locations in Braintree and Mattapan for Class D road tests. This move aims to offer more accessible and convenient options for customers and aligns with the recent implementation of the Work and Family Mobility Act.

BRAINTREE, MA – Residents of Massachusetts looking to take their Class D road tests have reason to rejoice. The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has announced the addition of two new testing locations in Braintree and Mattapan. This initiative is part of the RMV's ongoing efforts to enhance customer convenience and is in line with the successful rollout of the Work and Family Mobility Act, which took effect on July 1.

While the Braintree RMV Service Center on Plain Street already offers road test services, the addition of the Braintree Granite Plaza at 717 Granite Street, Braintree, MA 02184 and the Mattapan Riverway Plaza at 90 River Street, Boston, MA 02126 will cater exclusively to road tests. These sites will not handle other customer service transactions. Road tests at these locations are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For those preparing for their road tests, it's essential to note the requirements. Applicants must present a physical copy of their learner’s permit, a printed and completed Road Test Application, and be accompanied by a qualified sponsor. A sponsor is defined as a licensed driver, aged 21 or older, with at least a year's driving experience. Vehicles used for the test must meet specific safety and functional criteria, including a valid registration, current inspection sticker, and appropriate seating arrangements. Detailed vehicle requirements can be found on the RMV's dedicated road test webpage.

In addition to the RMV's efforts, AAA Northeast is stepping up to offer road tests for its members at its branch located at 25 Mountain Street West in Worcester. More details about AAA's services can be accessed at Massachusetts | AAA Northeast.

Residents are encouraged to utilize the RMV's online resources, which include preparation videos, checklists, and applications, to ensure they are well-prepared for their road tests.
