The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) has announced that all branch offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will be closed to observe the Labor Day holiday. According to the MVA's official notice, the closure will occur on two key dates: Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, and Monday, Sept. 1, 2025. Customers are encouraged to plan ahead for their driver’s license, identification card or vehicle registration needs, as no in-person or emissions testing services will be available during these days. Regular office and VEIP operations will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The Labor Day holiday marks one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. To help customers prepare, the MVA reminds drivers that many routine transactions do not require an office visit. Through the MVA’s online services portal, Marylanders can renew or replace a driver’s license or identification card, request a driving record, order specialized license plates, pay fees and update their address. Online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and often allow customers to complete their transaction in minutes. For those who prefer an in-person visit when offices reopen, the MVA continues to operate by appointment for most services; appointments can be scheduled through the website or by contacting the MVA Customer Service Center.

During the closure, the MVA’s self‑service kiosks at select branch locations will remain accessible. These kiosks allow customers to renew vehicle registrations, obtain duplicate registration cards, and print certified driving records without waiting in line. In addition, VEIP self‑service kiosks located around the state provide an option for completing a quick emissions test for eligible vehicles at any time of day. These self‑service resources are particularly helpful for drivers who need to complete a transaction during the holiday weekend or outside of normal business hours.

The MVA also encourages residents to use the holiday as an opportunity to ensure they are prepared for the federal REAL ID requirements, which will be enforced at airports and federal facilities in May 2025. Obtaining a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license or ID card requires a one‑time in‑person visit to present proof of identity, Social Security number, and two documents proving Maryland residency. Appointments for REAL ID conversions often fill quickly, so checking document requirements and scheduling early can save time later.

The agency thanks employees and the public for their cooperation and wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Labor Day. By utilizing online services and self‑service kiosks, Maryland residents can manage their MVA business with minimal disruption while branches and VEIP stations are closed.
