Marshalltown Driver License Center Relocates to 704 May Street After June 26 Closure

Residents of Marshalltown and the surrounding area should note an important change to their driver licensing services later this month. The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division has announced that the Marshalltown Driver License Service Center will relocate from its long‑time home on South Center Street to a new facility on May Street. According to a news release issued June 12, 2026, the current location at 3700 South Center Street will close to the public at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 26【704952845854377†L84-L90】. Staff will use the weekend to prepare for the move, and the office is scheduled to reopen at 704 May Street at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 29【704952845854377†L84-L90】.
In the release, the Iowa DOT explained that the move will improve access and create a more efficient layout for customers and employees. The new facility on May Street offers more space for testing and counter service, additional parking and improved accessibility for people with disabilities. Relocating the service center also allows the DOT to update its technology and modernize waiting areas. During the closure, customers needing to renew a driver’s license or ID card, obtain a Real ID, complete a road test or handle other licensing matters should plan ahead. The state encourages motorists who are able to use online services or visit nearby driver’s license stations in Ames or Nevada while Marshalltown’s office is closed.
Appointments scheduled for June 27 or June 28 will be rescheduled. Customers who have appointments on June 26 should arrive early, as doors will close promptly at 4:30 p.m. The DOT notes that many routine transactions, including license renewals and replacements, address changes and driving record requests, can be completed online at `iowadot.gov`. Those needing to schedule a driver’s license or ID appointment can do so at `iowadot.gov/mvd/other-appointments` or by calling the Marshalltown Service Center. Real ID applicants should ensure they have the required documents, such as proof of identity, Social Security number and Iowa residency, before visiting.
Once the new office opens at 704 May Street on June 29, hours of operation will return to normal. The Iowa DOT expects the larger space and modern design to reduce wait times and provide a more comfortable environment. By consolidating services and expanding parking, the agency hopes to accommodate future growth in Marshalltown and the surrounding counties. For more information about the relocation, appointment scheduling or the services offered at the Driver License Service Center, visit the Iowa DOT’s Motor Vehicle Division website or call the customer service line. This temporary closure is a short‑term inconvenience that will ultimately result in improved services for central Iowa residents.
