Kansas DMV Update: Check Local Offices for Service Adjustments

Default News Image

For Kansas drivers, there are currently no new statewide updates or closures from the Kansas Department of Revenue’s Division of Vehicles. The state site has not posted any recent news releases, and there are no announced changes to fees or licensing procedures. However, local county treasurers and driver‑license offices have issued their own updates about service changes. For example, the Riley County Treasurer’s Office announced that it will discontinue its driver‑license service on August 29, and customers will need to visit the full‑service driver licensing office in Manhattan or another Kansas Department of Revenue field office. Elsewhere, some county treasurer offices have temporarily reduced hours or moved services while their buildings are renovated or staffing is adjusted. These changes underscore that Kansas administers many driver‑licensing and vehicle‑registration functions at the county level, so hours and services vary widely by location.

Because of this decentralized system, motorists should check their county treasurer or DMV website for the latest updates before visiting in person. Calling ahead or booking an appointment through the state’s online scheduling tool can help avoid unnecessary trips. Many routine transactions can also be completed online or by mail. The state’s iKan portal allows customers to renew a license or ID, replace a lost or stolen card, request a driving record and renew vehicle registration without leaving home. Real ID‑compliant cards continue to be issued; applicants should bring proof of identity, Social Security number and Kansas residency documents to their appointment. With no statewide policy changes on the horizon, the most important step for Kansas drivers right now is to verify the status of their local office and take advantage of online and mail‑in options wherever possible.
