The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) has issued a notice that International Registration Plan (IRP) appointments at the Alexandria OMV office will be unavailable during the week of August 25–29, 2025. The IRP program allows commercial vehicle operators to register in multiple jurisdictions with a single set of credentials. Customers usually book IRP transactions by appointment through the OMV’s appointment portal. According to the OMV’s alert, no IRP services will be available at the Alexandria office for five days, which means carriers who need to renew or update their apportioned plates will need to reschedule at another OMV location or postpone their visit until after the service interruption.

While the notice did not specify the reason for the temporary unavailability, offices sometimes suspend IRP appointments due to system upgrades, staff training or facility maintenance. The OMV emphasized that the Alexandria closure applies only to IRP transactions; all other driver licensing and vehicle services at the office will continue on their regular schedule. Customers who had existing appointments during the affected week should expect their bookings to be cancelled. The OMV recommends that carriers check their appointment status online and choose from alternative locations in the state that offer IRP services. Nearby offices equipped to handle IRP transactions include Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Shreveport, though availability is limited and appointments are required.

The IRP is an agreement among U.S. states and Canadian provinces to facilitate the collection and distribution of commercial vehicle registration fees based on distance traveled. Under IRP rules, registrants can travel through multiple jurisdictions without purchasing separate permits in each state or province. Because apportioned registration is essential for interstate carriers, the OMV urges registrants to plan ahead and verify that the office they plan to visit is open for IRP services. Those who cannot complete their transactions during the week of August 25 should renew their credentials online if eligible, or contact OMV headquarters for guidance.

The OMV will post updates on its website and social media channels if the closure dates change or if additional offices are impacted. Carriers are encouraged to monitor these communications and to arrive at their appointments with all required documents, including current cab card, proof of insurance and identification. For more information about IRP services or to schedule an appointment at an alternative office, visit the OMV’s IRP appointment portal or call the OMV customer service line.
