Georgia's DDS Promotes Online Replacement for Lost Driver’s Licenses
The Department of Driver Services (DDS) in Georgia offers a convenient online service for residents to replace lost driver’s licenses. The online platform is available around the clock, ensuring a hassle-free experience for users.
ATLANTA, August 24, 2023 - Summer vacations can be eventful, and sometimes, amidst the fun, essential items like driver's licenses can get misplaced. The Department of Driver Services (DDS) has a solution for Georgia residents who find themselves in such a predicament. The DDS has introduced a swift and secure online service that allows residents to order a replacement for their lost driver’s license without the need to visit a service center. The online service can be accessed anytime via the DDS website at www.dds.georgia.gov.
DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore emphasized the convenience of the online service, stating, “We know that your time is valuable, so why come in to a center if you don’t have to?” He added that customers typically receive their replacement license or ID within 10 days of placing the order. To aid those who might be concerned about driving without a physical license, the DDS provides a printable receipt upon completion of the online transaction. This receipt serves as a temporary proof of the replaced Georgia license or permit, allowing customers to continue driving legally until they receive their replacement.
The online process utilizes the photo already stored in the DDS system to produce the replacement license, which is then mailed to the customer's registered address. Commissioner Moore highlighted that data indicates over half of the visitors to DDS centers could have availed their required services online, suggesting a significant potential for time and resource savings.
The online replacement service offers multiple advantages to customers. Not only does it save them a trip to the DDS center, but it also comes with a five-dollar discount. Additionally, customers save on gasoline and potential absences from work or school.
For those who still prefer or need to visit a DDS center in person, completing the necessary paperwork online at www.dds.georgia.gov before arriving is recommended. This pre-emptive step ensures a smoother and more efficient service experience at the center.
