Georgia Introduces Digital Driver’s License and ID for Streamlined Summer Air Travel

Digital ID

Travelers in Georgia can now add a touch of digital convenience to their summer vacation plans. The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is enabling residents to add their driver's license or state ID to their Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch.

Digital Convenience at Airports

This feature aims to speed up the process at select Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) PreCheck® checkpoints, including those at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport’s South Terminal. It's an effort to keep pace with what is described as one of the busiest summers on record for airports and airlines.

“Georgians value convenience and enhanced security especially when traveling. Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID is just one example of how leveraging state of the art technology can reimagine our customers’ experience,” said Spencer R. Moore, Commissioner, Georgia Department of Driver Services.

Availability and Requirements

The Georgia Digital Driver’s License and ID are free and voluntary. However, Georgia law mandates that customers continue to carry their physical driver’s license or ID. While TSA PreCheck is currently the primary utilization for these digital IDs, an expansion of use cases is expected in the future.

Benefits for traveler:

  • Ease of Travel: Learn how to utilize Georgia's Digital Driver’s License and ID to expedite your travel experience.
  • Understanding Requirements: While this is a free and optional service, physical copies must still be carried as required by law.
  • Future Possibilities: Be informed about forthcoming expansions in the use of digital IDs beyond TSA PreCheck.

How to Take Advantage of This Service

  1. Add Your Details: If you have a valid Georgia driver's license or state ID, you can add it to Apple Wallet on your iPhone or Apple Watch.
  2. Use at TSA PreCheck: Present your digital ID at select TSA PreCheck® checkpoints, including Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport’s South Terminal.
  3. Stay Informed: Follow updates from the DDS for future expansions and opportunities with Georgia's Digital Driver’s License and ID.
