Georgia DDS Labor Day weekend closures for customer service centers and call center

Georgia's Department of Driver Services (DDS) has announced that its customer service centers and main call center will be closed for the Labor Day holiday. According to the DDS's office closures page, all Customer Service Centers will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, and the call center and headquarters will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025. The closure is part of the statewide observance of the Labor Day weekend, which traditionally brings a surge of holiday travel.

DDS officials are reminding Georgia residents to plan ahead for these closures by taking care of licensing, identification or vehicle registration needs in advance. Most in-person services are by appointment only at DDS, and the closure means that no walk-in or scheduled appointments will be available at any of the agency's centers on Saturday, Aug. 30. The call center will resume operations on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Customers with scheduled exams or appointments are being contacted by DDS to reschedule after the holiday, but it is always wise to verify your appointment status through your online account before traveling to a service center.

Although offices will be closed, many services will remain accessible through the DDS website and free mobile app. Drivers can renew or replace a driver's license or ID, update their address, request official driving records, and make changes to vehicle registrations online. DDS recommends that customers create or log in to their DDS Online Services account ahead of time to ensure they can complete any necessary transactions during the closure. The agency notes that online transactions are typically processed more quickly than in-office visits and can save a trip altogether.

Labor Day is a busy travel weekend, so DDS urges drivers to prioritize safety and ensure they have the proper documentation before hitting the road. Georgians planning air travel this fall are reminded about the federal REAL ID requirement: starting May 7, 2025, standard driver’s licenses will no longer be accepted at airport security checkpoints, so travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card, a passport or another federally accepted document. Obtaining a REAL ID requires an in-person visit with documentation proving identity, social security number, and two proofs of Georgia residency. With the upcoming holiday closures, residents should schedule their REAL ID appointments well in advance or take advantage of available time earlier in the week.

DDS leadership thanks Georgians for their patience and cooperation and encourages everyone to enjoy a safe holiday weekend. Offices will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025.
