The Governor's Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) reminded parents and caregivers in Madison and Onondaga counties that certified child passenger safety technicians will provide free car seat checks on Thursday, April 6, in Oneida and Thursday, April 20, in Manlius.

The first event will take place on April 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Walmart parking lot located at 2024 Genesee Street in Oneida. For more information, contact Chrystal Johnson at (315) 366-2848 or [email protected].

The second event is scheduled for April 20, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Manlius Police Department, 1 Arkie Albanese Avenue in Manlius. For more information, contact Ken Hatter at (315) 682-2212 or [email protected].

These events are part of a year-round safety initiative involving state and local law enforcement agencies and community safety partners, who offer free car seat inspections to the public. Using the "Learn, Practice, and Explain" model, trained technicians educate parents and caregivers on selecting and properly installing the appropriate car seat for their child's age and size, as well as their vehicle, to ensure correct use every time.
