Free Car Seat Checkups Available in Suffolk, Orange, and Erie Counties

ALBANY, NY – The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) reminded parents and caregivers in Suffolk, Orange, and Erie counties today that free car seat checks by certified child passenger safety technicians are available on Saturday, March 25.
The GTSC is a coalition of state and local law enforcement agencies, traffic safety experts, and community organizations dedicated to promoting traffic safety. The GTSC works to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries through education, enforcement, and engineering.
The free car seat checks are part of the GTSC’s year-round effort to educate parents and caregivers about the importance of proper car seat use. Trained technicians will use the “Learn, Practice, and Explain” model to educate parents and caregivers on how to choose and properly install the appropriate seat for their child’s age and size and their vehicle.
The free car seat checks will be held at the following locations:
- Suffolk County:
- New York State Police Troop L Headquarters, 7140 Republic Airport, Farmingdale
- Orange County:
- New York State Police, 55 Crystal Run Road, Middletown
- Erie County:
- Erie County Sheriff's Office - Colden Substation, 8812 State Route 240, Colden
- Orchard Park Central Fire Hall, 30 School Street, Orchard Park
- SUNY Fredonia Services Complex, 280 Central Avenue, Fredonia
