First Ever Road to Restoration Driver's License Clinics to Launch in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
For the first time, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan will see the launch of the successful Road to Restoration driver's license clinics in July, bringing essential assistance to residents working to restore their driving privileges. The clinics are a partnership between the Michigan Department of State and various public and private partners and aim to guide Michiganders with a suspended driver's license through restoration.
When and Where
The clinics are scheduled for:
- Marquette at Northern Michigan University – NC Ballroom IV, 1401 Presque Isle Ave. on July 10 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Escanaba at Delta County Chamber of Commerce Center, 1001 N. Lincoln Rd. on July 12 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Sault Ste. Marie at Lake Superior State University – Norris Center, 1000 Meridian St., on July 14 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Space may be limited, so the Department of State strongly advises pre-registration, which is now open at Michigan.gov/RoadtoRestoration or by calling 211.
What’s In It For You
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson stated that assisting people in regaining their driving privileges can create an "economic ripple effect" that benefits not only the individual but also the community and the state as a whole.
The Road to Restoration clinics is free to attend, though participants may need to settle outstanding fines or fees for license reinstatement. DUI/OWI expungement services are not offered, and license reinstatement is not guaranteed.
Background
The Road to Restoration program was established in 2022 after changes to state law lifted suspensions for drivers who did not pay tickets or court fines or failed to appear in court for certain non-moving violations. While over 150,000 Michiganders have benefited from these changes, further action is required for many to restore their driver’s licenses fully. Since its launch, the program has already served over 6,000 affected residents throughout the state.
The expansion of the clinics to the Upper Peninsula was made possible through a partnership with the Department of Attorney General, DTE Energy, Miller Canfield Law Firm, Detroit Justice Center, Michigan Association of United Ways, Michigan 2-1-1, Upper Peninsula Michigan Works!, Northwest Michigan Works!, and Delta County Chamber of Commerce.
