New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) encourages motorcycle owners to renew their registrations before expiring on April 30. Motorcycles must be registered annually, and the process has been streamlined for convenience, allowing customers to renew their registrations online easily.

"As the weather warms, many motorcyclists get ready to ride," said DMV Commissioner Mark J. F. Schroeder. "At DMV, we have worked hard to streamline our processes so people can do their business quickly, easily, and conveniently. It takes only a few minutes to renew your motorcycle registration online so you can enjoy a safe ride along New York's many scenic routes."

Motorcycles are required to undergo safety inspections at least once every 12 months at a DMV-licensed station. Registered businesses can be found on the DMV website, and customers should look for blue and orange or blue and gold signs that read "Official NYS Motorcycle Inspection Station."

Registrations cannot be renewed if they are suspended, revoked, or if the motorcycle has not been inspected within the past year. If the registration has been expired for more than a year, reregistration is required at a DMV office or by mail.

Motorcycles must have liability coverage to be operated on public roadways, regardless of whether they are registered in New York or out-of-state. With warmer weather increasing motorcyclists, drivers are urged to be cautious and considerate of those sharing the road.

The DMV provided safety tips for drivers and motorcyclists, emphasizing the importance of awareness, proper vehicle maintenance, and obeying traffic laws. Tips include wearing DOT-approved helmets and high-quality riding gear for motorcyclists, and being extra vigilant when changing lanes or turning for drivers.

Both drivers and motorcyclists are urged to stay focused on the road, avoid distractions, and never operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Observing traffic laws, signs, and signals is crucial for the safety of everyone on the road.
