The District of Columbia DMV Has Updated It's Registration Fees.

The District of Colombia has announced a change in the registration fees for some classes of vehicles. While the fee for Class I vehicles remains unchanged, effective October 1, 2022, the registration fees for trailers, some passenger vehicles, and some commercial vehicles have changed.

Class, I passenger vehicles continue to cost $72, but the price of Class II passenger vehicles has increased from $115 to $175. Additionally, Class III vehicles increased from $155 to $250. Among passenger vehicles, only the Class V vehicles, which are the Battery and Electric Vehicles (BEV), remain at their current pricing of $36, and this will only apply to the first two years and will exclude motorcycles and motorized bikes.

The fee for Class I commercial vehicles has remained at a cost of $125, but Class II vehicles have increased from $160 to $175, Class III has gone up from $220 to $250, and Class IV has increased from $300 to $500. The fee for Class V commercial vehicles is further broken up according to weight. The original price for Class V commercial vehicles weighing less than 10,000 pounds increased from $575 to $700, but Class V commercial vehicles weighing more than 10,000 have an additional fee, so the cost of this type of vehicle increased from $575 plus the additional $25 fee per 1,000 pounds to $700 plus an additional $50 fee per 1,000 pounds.

Class I trailer registration fees have stayed at $50, but Class II trailers have increased from $125 to $150, Class III trailers have increased from $250 to $275, Class IV trailers have gone from $400 to $500, Class V trailer increased from $500 to $700, and Class VI trailers weighing less than 10,000 pounds increased from $550 to $850. Class VI trailers weighing more than 10,000 pounds were subject to an additional $50 per additional 1,000 pounds, but they're now subject to an extra $75 per 1,000 pounds.
