Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles Will Now Process First-Time Trust Requests by Appointment Only

First-time trust requests will be processed by appointment only at the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This will allow for a more thorough review of all necessary documents before a scheduled visit is conducted.

Those looking to place a vehicle with a Delaware title in the name of a trust should visit dmv.de.gov/onlineservices/trust-appointments to make an appointment at their nearest DMV location. To make the process more seamless, the following information should be secured before scheduling an appointment:

Phone number
Mailing address
(VIN) Vehicle Identification Number for the vehicle(s) in question
Name(s) on the trust
Year, make, and model of the vehicle(s) in question
State where the vehicle(s) is titled
Original trust and any amendments

Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski said, "at the DMV, we're always searching for ways to minimize wait times. Trust requests take more time to process than a regular title transfer. By converting to an appointment-only system, we'll be able to move more complex transactions from the general line and do the work behind the scenes to offer a more streamlined approach that will help our staff and customers."

"We hope to make things as easy as possible for our customers. Following this new process, our team will be able to review documentation before the customer arrives. Missing documents can be retrieved and necessary changes can be made beforehand, which will reduce the time spent at the DMV and eliminate the need for repeated visits," says Jana Simpler, Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles Director.

The documentation necessary for those requesting a trust for the first time can vary depending on the state in which the vehicle is currently titled and the specific language written within the trust. Customers can schedule an appointment or find more information by visiting dmv.de.gov/onlineservices/trust-appointments or calling 302-744-2500.
