Delaware to add Indicator of a Veteran's Status to License or I.D
According to a recent announcement from the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles, veterans of the U.S. armed forces or members of the National Guard could now add a special Veteran indicator to their driving license or identification card.
Every Delaware veteran who enlisted in the military and was released on the condition of honor is eligible for the Veteran Indicator label. One must possess a current Delaware driver's license or identity card, as well as provide documentation of military service by producing any of these original documents:
- Identification from the armed forces
- NGB-22
- DD-214
- DD- 256
- Certificate of Honorable Discharge
- Valid out-of-state driving permit with a veteran's status
The Veteran Indicator is created to confirm a person's status as a Veteran in Delaware so that companies and organizations may also acknowledge their efforts, as Nicole Majeski, Delaware Department of Transportation secretary puts it.
A joint effort resulted in the Veteran Indicator, which lessened the need for Veterans to acquire and carry a secondary I.D. or a DD-214 that contains personal information to demonstrate their veteran status.
Veterans can add the indicator at any DMV facility without paying an additional fee when renewing, altering their residence, or getting a duplicate of their driver's license or identity card.
Veteran status does not grant access to all military benefits and is not a military identification card. Veterans who wish to learn about their eligibility for federal benefits should get in touch with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (V.A.).
You can have an "active duty military" indicator added to your license or I.D. if you are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty. To get the indicator, you must present your military Common Access Card (CAC) while applying for a new card or renewing one.
A "veteran spouse" indicator may be added to your driver's license if you are the husband or wife of a deceased veteran. You must provide documentation of the veteran's separation or discharge and the veteran's marriage and death certificate to get the indicator.
