DC DMV Drivers Can Take Virtual Test Now

The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that it is now offering the driver knowledge test in a virtual format. This new service allows residents to take the exam at their homes or in person at any of its service centers. Before this, the only way to take the test was to make an appointment at one of the agency's Test Proctoring Centers.

According to Gabriel Robinson, the director of the DC DMV, the agency's virtual testing option provides DC residents with an increased level of accountability and access to driver licenses and knowledge tests. He also noted that the tests are administered by a network of professional test-takers.

The driver knowledge test is the first step in the process of becoming a licensed driver in the District of Columbia. It tests a person's knowledge of the various driving rules and regulations in the city. Virtual testing is only available for the GRAD and Standard tests.

Regardless of whether a person passes or fails the test, they will still have to pay a fee. For those who are looking to gain a motorcycle endorsement, the knowledge test must still be taken at the DC Department of Motor Vehicles Service Center. On the other hand, for those who are looking to obtain a commercial license, the knowledge test should be taken at the Deanwood Road Test and Services Office.

After completing the virtual knowledge test, DC residents will receive an email with their test results. Those who receive a passing score can then visit any of the agency's service centers within 14 days to present all the necessary documents to obtain their license or learner permit.

Those who did not receive a passing score may try to retake the virtual test within three calendar days. After making an appointment at the agency's website, takemydrivingtest.com/DC, a new appointment will be made once they have retaken the exam.

To ensure that they are ready for the actual test, residents should thoroughly review the driver manual of the DC Department of Motor Vehicles. They can also use an online practice test.

Unlike the virtual test, the practice knowledge test offered by the DC Department of Motor Vehicles is only for informational purposes. It does not contain any actual questions from the agency's knowledge test.
