DC DMV Announces Juneteenth Closures, Georgetown Center Water Main Repair and ACH Payment Suspension

District of Columbia residents who need to renew a driver’s license or register a vehicle should plan around several temporary closures and service changes announced by the DC Department of Motor Vehicles. In a bulletin posted to the agency’s newsroom, officials explained that all DC DMV service centers, adjudication services and call centers will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth. Online services remain available during the holiday closure, but no in-person appointments will be offered. Normal business operations are scheduled to resume on Saturday, June 20.
In addition to the holiday closure, the Georgetown DMV Service Center and the nearby self-service kiosk at the Benning Ridge Shell station remain closed until further notice because of a water main break. The unexpected outage has forced the agency to temporarily suspend operations at the Georgetown location while crews repair the damaged infrastructure. DC DMV encourages customers who typically use the Georgetown center to visit other service centers across the District or to complete transactions online. Residents can renew vehicle registrations, request driver records, and perform other routine transactions through the DC DMV’s website at dmv.dc.gov.
The DC DMV also announced that its ACH/Electronic Check payment option has been temporarily disabled due to a system issue. Customers who typically pay fees online using a checking account should instead use a credit or debit card when completing online transactions. In-person customers can pay with cash, credit or debit card, certified check, or money order. The agency is working to resolve the problem with ACH payments and expects the feature to return once the underlying system issue is fixed. In the meantime, there are no additional fees for using a credit or debit card for online transactions.
Agency officials apologize for any inconvenience and encourage customers to check the DMV website for updates on the Georgetown Service Center closure and the ACH payment outage. The site also offers a live chat feature and a robust FAQ section that can help answer questions without requiring a phone call. By proactively announcing these closures and service changes, the DC DMV hopes to minimize disruptions and help residents plan their visits more efficiently. Residents are reminded that many services, including driver license renewals for eligible customers, can be completed online 24 hours a day.
