On September 15, 2025, the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced its participation in the 26th annual Wishes on Wheels Truck Convoy at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. The event, which took place on September 14, brought together nearly 500 trucks and welcomed more than 100 families to raise funds and awareness for Make‑A‑Wish Connecticut. Organized by the nonprofit to support children with critical illnesses, Wishes on Wheels has raised more than $2.3 million over the past 26 years.

The DMV’s law enforcement unit played a central role in the convoy. Officers provided traffic control along Interstate 84 and Interstate 384, ensuring that the long line of trucks moved safely through the route. They also helped make one child’s dream come true: eight‑year‑old Gavin got to ride in a police cruiser with its lights flashing and sirens blaring. DMV personnel also distributed educational materials to the hundreds of volunteer truck drivers who took part in the procession.

Commissioner Tony Guerrera expressed pride in the agency’s involvement. “DMV is proud to be a part of this event,” he said, thanking everyone who participated and contributed to the special day. The sentiment underscores the department’s commitment to public service beyond its traditional role of licensing and registration. By taking part in the convoy, the DMV highlighted its community outreach efforts and reinforced the notion that transportation agencies can be partners in charitable causes as well as regulators.

After the convoy, participants and families enjoyed a Family Fun Day at Rentschler Field that featured rides, games, a car show, raffle, and other attractions. The festive atmosphere demonstrated how the event offers both entertainment and a way to support Make‑A‑Wish Connecticut. For wish families, the day provided a welcome respite and a chance to connect with supportive members of the community.

While this news does not directly impact DMV services, it is a reminder that the agency is engaged in the wider community. Connecticut residents should still keep an eye on DMV communications for announcements about office hours, service changes, and Real ID requirements. Many transactions, such as renewals and address changes, can be completed online without visiting an office. By supporting events like Wishes on Wheels, the Connecticut DMV demonstrates that it values public engagement and recognizes the importance of helping others.
