Colorado DMVs Require Appointments for some services

Long lines and waiting times have been major nightmares at Colorado's Division of Motor Vehicles offices for years. However, their services are now more efficient and less time-consuming, thanks to the nine new offices opened on Monday and the ten added on Wednesday.

Some of the services that will be offered at DMV offices include instruction permits, issuance of driver's licenses, and identification card. Clients will have to book an appointment for the office services. Additionally, DMV has an online system that allows residents to do many services online from the comfort of their homes.

In the past, getting a driver's license or renewing a registration could take hours. However, in 2021, DMV offices aimed to serve at least 75 percent of their client's transactions within 30 minutes or less. Averagely the process took 19 minutes despite the systematic challenges leading to miscalculation times of almost 4 percent of DMV’s customers.

Even though they archived their efficiency goal, the company failed to meet its target of having an increased number of online users by 2.5 percent per the fiscal year 2021 to 2022. Instead, the average online score remained at 2.9 percent to 8.4 percent, way below their initial goal.

Additionally, in the State Auditor’s report, DMV exaggerated the performance of its online platform from July to December 2021 by 1 percent. The State Auditor's office advised DMV to revise its way of reporting performance outcomes and correct the systematic errors that resulted in miscalculating the company’s customers’ wait time.
