Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles Faces Statewide Outage, Disrupting Services

Colorado DMV

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is grappling with a technical issue that has caused a statewide outage, impacting all state driver license offices and prompting the agency to reschedule appointments and offer alternative services, according to a statement released Monday, May 1, 2023.

The outage has disrupted the issuance and renewal of driver licenses, identification cards, and instruction permits. However, some services remain available, including knowledge tests for instruction permits, endorsements, and commercial driver's license permits, as well as motor vehicle records and hearing requests. Online services have not been affected by the outage.

At this time, there is no definitive timeline for when in-office services will resume. The DMV has pledged to keep the public informed of developments through its social media channels and its website at DMV.Colorado.gov/locations.

Until the technical issue is resolved, Coloradans in need of DMV services are encouraged to visit myDMV.Colorado.gov or use the myColorado™ app for online assistance. Additionally, the MV Express Kiosks offer a convenient option for residents in participating counties to renew their vehicle registrations.

The DMV has expressed gratitude for the patience of Coloradans as it collaborates with its partners to restore the disrupted services.
