BMV Plans to Shutter Its Hobart Indiana Branch

Default News Image

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, the BMV will officially close its branch office. Instead, Hobart city officials will coordinate with the BMV to install a BMV Connect kiosk to serve the community. At the kiosk, they can perform several services, such as:

  • Driver's license renewal
  • Registration
  • Duplicate title
  • Renew ID card
  • Replace commercial driver's license

The 24-hour self-service kiosks offer greater convenience and faster service. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Joe B. Hoage said that he approved the plans to close the branch in Hobert.

He didn't approve it lightly, but after a strong response from local residents and careful consideration, he decided to shutter the branch office. Three other locations sit near the one in Hobart, so residents won't lose options on where to conduct their business.

To emphasize, the BMV has three other locations within a 10-mile radius of Hobart. This includes offices in Portage, Merriville, and Gary.

The BMV kiosk came up as a new service to allow customers to visit the BMV and conduct transactions whenever they want. You can pay for the services using a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover credit card. The kiosk locations accept cash as well.

Remember that while they offer service 24 hours a day, they close the kiosk from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sundays to perform routine maintenance.

The shuttering of the Hobart branch may inconvenience some residents who would prefer to visit a branch. To find branch locations or even to locate one of these convenient kiosks, visit IN.gov/BMV.
