Astoria DMV Office Closed After Water-Line Break, Reopening Planned for Dec. 22

Drivers in Oregon's north coast should plan ahead when visiting the Department of Motor Vehicles this week. The DMV announced that its Astoria field office at 705 West Marine Drive was forced to close on December 12, 2025 after a broken water supply line caused flooding in the building. The closure affects all in-person services at that location, including licensing, vehicle title and registration transactions and identity document issuance.
According to the DMV, a water line inside the building ruptured overnight December 11, leaving several inches of water throughout the customer service area. The damaged plumbing and resulting cleanup have made the office unsafe for employees and customers. Crews are working to repair the line, replace flooring and ensure the office is fully dried and safe to reopen. The agency said that, barring any unforeseen delays, the Astoria office is tentatively scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 22【32483156017816†screenshot】. It urged customers to check the DMV’s online office closure list for updates before visiting.
While the Astoria office remains closed, Oregonians can complete more than 30 common DMV transactions online at dmv2u.oregon.gov. These include license and registration renewals, address changes, replacement licenses, driving record orders and Real ID card upgrades. Customers who must visit an office in person during the closure can make appointments at nearby DMV locations in St. Helens or Tillamook. The DMV encourages customers to use the online appointment scheduler at DMV2U to avoid long waits.
The agency also used the announcement to remind residents about the federal Real ID deadline. Beginning May 7, 2025, travelers will need a Real ID‑compliant driver license, state ID card or another federally accepted form of identification such as a passport to fly within the United States and enter secure federal facilities. Oregon’s DMV can issue Real IDs by appointment; however, you should consider whether you need one before applying, as a valid passport or passport card will suffice for domestic air travel.
For the latest information about the Astoria office reopening, customers can call the DMV’s field office services line at 503‑945‑5100 or visit DMV2U online【32483156017816†screenshot】. The DMV apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience while repairs are made. The planned reopening on December 22 should allow staff to resume full services before the holiday travel rush, but the agency advises checking its website for confirmation. Any updates about the closure will be posted at dmv.oregon.gov.
