Arkansas Uninsured Vehicles Nightmare
Driving is a thrilling experience; at least most drivers will agree with this. However, when driving, you must understand that you should be under insurance cover protection. This is because you can’t anticipate what happens on the roads.
This is not the case for 10% of Arkansan's drivers. Out of 2.7 million state-registered drivers, about 200,000 vehicles are not insured.
Some drivers in the city of Little Rock have been freely cruising without insurance. The state has cracked the whip and is tirelessly trying to reduce the numbers by creating a system showing any lapsed insurance in accurate time.
Last week, the Arkansas administration released data on the numbers of automobiles running on expired tags. The administration noted that they would not spare harsh fines to all individuals found driving illegal vehicles.
Arkansas is also making efforts to reduce the number of uninsured cars. Since 2019, Arkansas State has had a system to show a driver's insurance validity. The Arkansas insurance online platform is open for the residents and the enforcement unit to access.
The Arkansas officials gave an example of how the platform functions. They explained that if a driver is pulled over, information retrieved, and the insurance is found to have expired, the driver is given a grace period of 30 days to obtain new insurance. Failure to get the insurance within the stipulated time frame will lead to the car's registration being suspended and the driver fined $100.
Back in 2020, representatives from the state house noted that the Arkansas state enforcement had written over 10,000 citations per year for all persons who had failed to provide insurance.
In Arkansas, Little Rock, drivers with no proof of insurance are ticketed with a fine of $90. Suppose a driver is issued a ticket with no insurance as a first-time offender; it is $250. However, that figure doubles to around $425 for the second ticket.
