Arizona’s Rancho Santa Fe Parkway Interchange One-Third Complete; New I-40 Access Coming 2026

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is building a brand‑new interchange at Rancho Santa Fe Parkway in east Kingman, and the project has reached a significant milestone. ADOT reports that the I‑40 interchange, which will provide an additional connection between Interstate 40 and Kingman’s airport and business district, is about one‑third complete. When finished in mid‑2026, the interchange is expected to improve traffic flow, relieve congestion on Stockton Hill Road and enhance access to the airport and surrounding communities.
Work began earlier this year and has already produced tangible progress. Crews have widened the existing I‑40 bridges, installed detour pavement and shifted traffic to temporary lanes to create a safe work zone. In the coming months the project will continue to take shape as construction crews install sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm drainage systems, fencing, guardrail, traffic signals, signage and pavement markings. Rancho Santa Fe Parkway itself will ultimately feature two travel lanes in each direction plus turn lanes, bike lanes and sidewalks.
The new interchange will add a full diamond configuration with on‑ and off‑ramps serving eastbound and westbound I‑40. It will also extend Rancho Santa Fe Parkway south of the interstate to connect with nearby streets, providing a safer and more direct route to the airport. ADOT’s project team notes that the existing traffic detours will remain in place during construction. Motorists should be prepared for reduced speed limits and lane restrictions.
Drivers should also expect some travel delays, particularly during nighttime work. ADOT says crews generally work Monday through Thursday nights and during the daytime on Fridays. Lane closures and flagging operations may cause delays of up to 20 minutes, so travelers should allow extra time and exercise caution in the work zone【55245925523039†L54-L87】. The agency urges motorists to follow posted detours and to watch for construction workers and equipment.
ADOT expects the interchange to open to traffic in mid‑2026 and is encouraging residents to sign up for email or text alerts to stay informed about progress and traffic impacts. Information is available on the ADOT website and through the free Arizona Traveler Information line. Once the Rancho Santa Fe Parkway interchange opens, it will provide improved access to Kingman’s airport and industrial park and support growth in Mohave County.
