The October 31 deadline for motor vehicle dealers to renew their licenses for 2023 is fast approaching. Alabama Department of Revenue officials is urging all dealers to submit their renewal applications as soon as possible to avoid delays in the process.
Once a dealer's license has expired, they cannot legally sell or lease any vehicles until the license is renewed. Renewing a license can take up to 30 days, so it is essential to submit the renewal application well before the expiration date.

To renew a license, dealers must submit an Application for License Renewal (Form MV-1) along with the required fee. The renewal fee is $25 for a master off-site and off-site sales license and $125 for a master dealer license. The fees associated with the plates are $25 for dealers and $17 for motorcycle dealers.

The license year begins October 1, and dealers, including part recyclers and auto dismantlers, are urged to renew their licenses before October 21 to avoid a 15% penalty of the amount plus interest.
